Description

It has attractive, light green foliage and a compact shape.
It also flowers and fruits throughout the year.
A shrub that can grow to a small tree 3-10m tall.
This plant is suitable as a hedge, screen, or even ground cover with pruning.

This bush with fleshy green leaves and a ‘split’ flower is often seen on our rocky shores and sandy beaches where it is tolerant of salty spray although its roots doesn’t actually tolerate regular flooding by seawater. Grows in a wide variety of soil types but prefers sandy soils and is salt tolerant.

Altitudinal range quite small, +/- confined to beaches just above sea level.
Usually grows in shrubland or on the edges of beach forest.
