Description
Barringtonia acutangula (Freshwater Mangrove) is a striking Australian native tree that brings vibrant colour and character to tropical landscapes. Naturally growing along creeks, rivers and lagoon edges across North Queensland, this hardy species thrives in moist conditions and makes an excellent choice for dams, waterways, rain gardens, revegetation projects and wildlife-friendly landscapes. As a result, it is perfect for planting in areas where many other trees struggle.
The tree produces glossy, deep green leaves with finely toothed edges, creating a lush canopy that provides shade and year-round interest. In addition, its attractive foliage contrasts beautifully with the colourful flowers, giving the tree strong ornamental appeal.
During the warmer months, long, pendulous flower spikes emerge from the branches.
