Description
It is a shrub or tree and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.
It can grow to 20m high.
Fast growing, dense shade tree with attractive stiff leaves to 12cm long.
Insignificant green flower in Winter & Spring, and small powdery red fruit capsules.
Suitable as a street tree.
Very hardy.
The outer covering of the fruit is dried and powdered.
Red powder covering fruit can be used as a dye.

* Soil preference : Moist, Well-drained
* Habitat : Sub-Tropical Rainforest
Altitudinal range from near sea level to 900 m.
Grows in monsoon forest and drier rain forest.
Probably frost tolerant as it persists along creeks and gullies on the Atherton Tableland.
