Description
Altitudinal range from near sea level to 1150 m.
Grows in well developed rain forest on a variety of sites but reaches its best development in upland and mountain rain forest.
A plant of the moist tropics, where it is found at elevations up to 1,200 metres.
It grows best in areas where annual daytime temperatures are within the range 20 – 30°c, but can tolerate 10 – 38°c
It is able to withstand moderate frosts.
It prefers a mean annual rainfall in the range 1,500 – 3,500mm, but tolerates 1,100 – 3,800mm
