With its impressive flowering display, the tree is often cultivated as an ornamental plant in tropical areas.

It is spectacular in spring when the tree is leafless and covered in large clusters of very pale pink to pink frilly flowers and there is a carpet of pink on the ground.

Description

They grow 8 – 12 metres tall in open areas but more like 20 – 35 metres in dense forests.

The pink trumpet flowers have a white throat with yellow stripes and blooms in large clusters in the spring just before the new foliage emerges.

The tree also has a very valuable timber.

Habitat : Interior of dense, primary forests, as well as in open and secondary growth areas.
A species of higher elevations in the tropics, it is well-suited to subtropical areas.
Prefers a well-drained fertile soil and a position in full sun
