Description
Archontophoenix alexandrae (Alexandra Palm) is one of Australia’s most elegant native palms, bringing instant tropical appeal to gardens and landscapes. Native to the rainforests of North Queensland, this fast-growing palm develops a smooth, slender trunk and a graceful crown of arching fronds. As a result, it is an excellent choice for feature planting, avenues, poolside gardens, resorts and tropical landscapes.
The palm produces long, feathery fronds with glossy dark green leaflets and striking silvery-grey undersides. Together, these lush leaves create a dense, elegant canopy that adds movement and year-round colour to the landscape. Furthermore, the bright green crownshaft provides an attractive contrast against the smooth grey trunk.
During the warmer months, large sprays of creamy-white flowers emerge beneath the crownshaft. These nectar-rich blooms attract bees and other beneficial pollinators, adding life to the garden. Soon afterwards, the flowers develop into vibrant bright red fruits that create a spectacular display. In addition, the colourful fruit provides an important food source for native birds and other wildlife.
With its graceful form, rapid growth and low-maintenance nature, Archontophoenix alexandrae is a standout choice for tropical gardens. Whether planted as a feature specimen, in rows to create a striking avenue or as part of a rainforest planting, this beautiful native palm delivers year-round beauty and lasting impact.
