The Petzl SM’D Triact‑Lock Carabiner is a compact, locking D‑shaped carabiner built for climbers, arborists and professionals who work at height. It delivers reliable performance while keeping gear weight low.
This carabiner uses Petzl’s TRIACT‑LOCK automatic locking system. The gate locks in three actions, giving you secure closure every time you clip in. That added security helps reduce the risk of accidental opening during use.
The D shape directs loads to the carabiner’s strongest axis. This improves strength and handling whether you’re clipping a lanyard, a pulley or a belay device. Its compact aluminium body keeps weight down without sacrificing durability, making it ideal for long days on the job or on the rock.
Handling is smooth, even with gloves on. The fluid interior design helps gear rotate freely with minimal snagging, and the Keylock nose prevents accidental catches when clipping or unclipping. The carabiner also includes a small hole below the gate to attach a Petzl TIBLOC or Micro Traxion device, so you can rig systems without risking loss of accessories.
At just about 55 g, this carabiner is light enough to reduce overall load while still offering dependable strength. It typically meets major safety standards including CE EN 362 and CE EN 12275 type B, rated around 23 kN on the major axis, 8 kN on the minor axis and 7 kN open gate strength — strong numbers for versatile use.
